Prepare your skin for Spring

Spring is nearly here and if you simply can’t wait for it to finally arrive – welcome to the club, you most certainly are not alone! I think we can all agree that spring is one of the most beautiful seasons, so keep reading if you want to prepare your skin in the best possible way.

The cold winter months can leave your skin feeling drier, lacking in moisture and rougher in texture due in part, to colder temperatures and dry indoor heating stripping your skin of its natural lipids and moisture. The spring brings warmer weather, longer days and sunshine and higher humidity depending on where you live, so it is a good time to re-evaluate and update your skincare routine.

As the temperature warms up and the humidity increases, your skin produces more of those natural lipids helping it to maintain moisture meaning you may not need the heavier creams you used in winter. A spring skincare option could be to opt for lighter cleansers, serums, and moisturisers, with lightweight textures that feel more comfortable on the skin.

So, how do you Prepare Your Skin for Spring?

1. EXFOLIATE FOR MORE RADIANT SKIN

It’s time to get rid of those dead skin cells that have been building up during winter to make your skin look healthy, fresh, and luminous for the upcoming season! Did you know that the combination of dirt, sweat, makeup, and your skin’s natural oils can clog your pores and result in a dull complexion, blackheads and breakouts no matter how old you are!

Exfoliation is the key when it comes to unclogging your pores and dealing with dull flaky skin. It can also boost your circulation and stimulate the production of new skin. Using a gentle scrub or an exfoliating face mask such as our Pink Clay Mask, one to two times a week will remove the dead skin cells and uncover the layers of new skin for the ultimate rejuvenated spring look.

2. CLEANSE EVERY DAY WITHOUT FAIL

An effective skincare routine starts with cleansing. A good cleanser will clean away the daily impurities that cling to your skin every day from the environment and make up. Cleansing twice a day also nourishes your skin and gives it a healthy glow at any age. Make sure to follow the instructions on your product and pat skin gently dry with a towel to avoid damaging delicate tissue.

3. TIGHTEN PORES WITH A TONER

After cleansing, your skin needs a toner morning and night. A toner or toning mist will get rid of any extra oils after cleansing and tighten pores. A mild skin toner that matches your skin type, such as our Pure or Restore Toning Mists will not dry out your skin unlike many harsh toning products can do. The right toner for your skin will also help your other skincare products work more efficiently.

4. ENSURE YOUR SKIN REMAINS HYDRATED

Once your skin is properly exfoliated, cleansed and toned, the next step is hydration. Our skin can have different needs throughout the year, which basically means that the serums and moisturisers you love to use during winter maybe too heavy come spring. If this is the case switch to a lighter water-based serum. We need to let our skin breathe and using a water-based serum will still give you the same benefits without the added weight. A perfect water-based serum is Hyaluronic Acid. Hyaluronic Acid can hold up to 1000 times its own weight in water and is a vital component of your skin's structure. Look for a quality Australian made Hyaluronic Acid. Our Hyaluronic Acid has a 97% high molecular weight Hyaluronic acid in a 1% solution and is made from natural Australian ingredients to give you will give you amounts of hydration making your skin feel plump and soft.

5. REMEMBER TO MOISTURISE!

Your skin tends to produce more oil in the summer than in winter, therefore will retain moisture better. This doesn’t mean you can skip this step though.  While you may have used a heavy cream to protect your skin from the cold, opt for a lightweight, grease-free moisturiser for spring. Our moisturisers contains skin-soothing ingredients such as Calendula and Banksia Flower and nourishing but lightweight ingredients like Jacaranda which will also assist in reducing the appearance of fine lines.

6. AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST…

Protect your skin from the sun! Sunscreen provides an essential part of your skincare routine. The sun can cause damage such as fine lines, dark spots, wrinkles, and skin cancer so ensure you use a broad-spectrum sunscreen to help prevent them. A Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of up to 50 helps to prevents damaging effects and protects your skin.
